About
Siuslaw Valley Bank was chartered for the purpose of fulfilling the need for banking services in the small rural town of Mapleton, Oregon, located in Western Lane County. At the time the bank commenced doing business on January 17, 1964, there were seven lumber and plywood manufacturing plants located on the banks of the Siuslaw River, which kept the local economy robust.
As the new bank gained a reputation for its services and community commitment, a petition, signed by 150 business people from Florence, convinced shareholders to move the bank’s head office to Florence in 1968. During this same period, officials of Siuslaw Valley Bank were instrumental in forming the Community Bank of Creswell, which opened for business in 1970.
Siuslaw Valley Bank expanded into the Willamette Valley by opening branches, first in the community of Pleasant Hill in 1973 and then later in Cottage Grove in 1975. A private banking office was opened in Eugene in 1987, followed by the acquisition of a savings and loan branch at Oakridge in 1988. In 1989, the shareholders of Siuslaw Valley Bank bought the Community Bank of Creswell, also purchasing NorthWest Funding, now known as Siuslaw Mortgage, a leading mortgage banking firm in Eugene. In 2002, bank offices were opened on Main Street in Springfield, and in the Valley River Village complex in Eugene. Also in 2002, Siuslaw Valley Bank was joined by Carter and Carter financial, when Carter and Carter became a subsidiary of Siuslaw Financial Group, Inc. At that time, Siuslaw Valley Bank shortened their name to Siuslaw Bank. In September of 2004, Siuslaw Bank opened a branch in Veneta, which became Siuslaw Bank’s 10th office in Lane County. Siuslaw Bank is currently the only bank in Lane County that provides banking services, tax and bookkeeping services, investment and retirement planning and products, and mortgage loans all under one roof.
